December 2015 - Dallas, Texas
This race took place during the National Black Marathoners Association Summit. It was my FIRST Summit and it was amazing to see so many people who looked like me who had achieved so much. Many members were recognized for their running accomplishments. My brother joined me as we ran the BMW Dallas Marathon! It was our 2nd marathon together!
January 2024 - RnR Arizona was my first stop of the new year! I got a chance to catch up with some of my run cousins! I also met some ladies of BGR (Black Girls Run) at the start! I may travel alone, but I am NEVER alone!
November 2024 - Tulsa, Oklahoma
I conquered state #48 towards my goal! It was a cold start, but it warmed up a little bit! I took off my hoodie and I’m glad I did! I actually got 3rd in my age group and there were more than 3 people in my age group! 😂 They only awarded the 1st place winner and that fine! I ran more this race than previously; however, I walked up the hills! I DON‘T like hills! The running community is so small because I saw a familiar face at the start. I talked to a young lady after the race and she mentioned that she’s running the same race I’ll do in New Mexico! That’s exciting, too! The “Journey to 50 States” continues!
January 2025 - Las Cruces, New Mexico
I finished state #49 towards my 50 state goal! The elevation was almost 4000 feet, so it was a challenge getting my breath leveled out! I finished and was happy about it! There was very little crowd support, but didn't matter. I got a chance to see some beautiful scenery and cheer those who were headed back to the start because it was an out and back route, along the Rio Grande. A very special treat was running with some other members of BGR (Black Girls Run). It was not a planned meetup; however, when one posted they we be there, others chimed and we were there supporting each other! One member celebrated her 66th birthday, which was the actual race date! I look forward to completing state #50 in Hawaii! The race will take place the day after my 61st birthday! The goal was to finish by the end of my 60th year, so it's close enough!
Maui Oceanfront Half Marathon, I'm coming for you!
